Week 8 Comments and Feedback

Feedback in
The comments that I have received have been very helpful to my writing.  They provide good ideas and information that I had not considered before.  The kinds of comments that have helped me the most have been the ones that provide different ideas or outlooks on my stories.  

Feedback out
I have yet to be disappointed with a story from someone in this class.  All of the stories have been very entertaining, and there are a large range of story styles and plots.  

Blog comments
The blogs are a marvelous way to get to know different people.  We each present ourselves differently, and I believe that they are tailored to our personalities.  Looking back, I would change a couple things about my intro.  There are times where I am reading someone else's intro and I think, "Oh, it would have been fun to discuss that part of myself too."

Looking forward
I like it when I am able to get the other person's perspective.  I enjoy hearing new ideas and points of view, and I would like the comments to reflect that.  


I like this one because it emphasizes being open and communicative.  It suggests that the 'critic' and the 'artist' are equals, instead of one being superior.

Story source: More Jataka Tales by Ellen C The Golden Goose the golden goose was being generous, but the mother was greedy.  Her greed caused the goose to fly away and they were were poor again.  The Stupid Monkeys The gardener gave his job for the day to the monkeys, but they did not know how to do it, so all of the trees died. The Woodpecker and the Lion The woodpecker was kind to the lion, but the lion did not return the kindness.  The Lion thought that he was doing the woodpecker a favor by not harming him.  This is a good representation of how some groups in power think.  Instead of being grateful to the woodpecker and treating him as an equal, he though his restraint for not harming him was enough. Feedback Strategies: Mirror

In the article  Be a Mirror , it discusses how constructive feedback needs to be like a mirror.  Mirrors show what is already there, they do not provide judgement.  A mirror does not make the reflection about itself,  it is completely about what it s reflecting.  We can do that by not putting I statements in feedback; feedback needs to be completely about the work.  It does not show what is not there.  We should not emphasize what they did not do, but highlight what they did do.  This way of thinking is very constructive, because it does no center itself around the critics approval or opinion, it attempts to focus solely on the work and the artists progress.   A large goal of mirroring is to provide feedback that can be transferred to other subjects or projects.  Feedback should be based around learning and growing, not making each project perfect.   In the article  How to Craft Constructive Feedback  talks about ...

Famous Last Words: Dead Week

I really enjoyed the reading for this week.  I got to go over some of my favorite fairy tales.  I had enough time to do both portions of the reading.  I remember many of the characters from the readings this week having a curse put on them. This seems to be a common theme with a lot of stories in mythology.  I will see if there are any this coming week.  I believe that I did my best writing this week in this class, because I got to be more creative than I normally am in my HR class.  In this class I got to write a story about a Queen who underwent a curse to protect her people.  It was a lot of fun, honestly.  I have never read a story like that before.  I really enjoyed reading the stories this week.
