Topic Brainstorm

Doing a take on King Arthur would be very interesting.  I am thinking of changing the setting to a more steampunk vibe, or maybe have all the main characters be female instead of male.  I think doing a take on one of the quest stories would be fun.  I am reasonably well versed in the adaptations of King Arthur; various cartoons, movies, and the TV show Merlin.  The Sword in the Stone was one of my favorite movies when I was little. The ideas of honor, valor, and equality are very common in many of the adaptations.

I really love the Britomart stories.  She is heir to the throne and has amazing fighting skills.  I like the magic mirror story because having glimpses of the future has always intrigued me.  I think that it would be fun to do a story with such a strong female character, that also has some element of being able to see or know some aspect of her fate.  I could also incorporate it into the King Arthur story if I like, because it does mention Merlin.

I really like the premise for Arabian Nights.  After reading through a couple of the stories, I noticed that each story has someone in it telling a story.  This story within a story cycle that the main character is telling to save her life is a wonderful plot that can be taken in many different directions.  I could have it be more like the original story, where she is telling it to convince the sultan to stop killing his wives, or I am also thinking of taking it in another direction where the protagonist is using this storytelling to keep a monster or ogre from killing and/or eating them.  That take on it reminds me of a part in the Hobbit when the dwarfs distract orcs (or some similar creature, I haven't read the Hobbit in awhile) until the sun comes up and they turn to stone.

Alice in Wonderland is one of my favorite stories because parts of it are shear nonsense.  The walrus and carpenter poem is one of my favorites.  I think it would be interesting to have a main character suddenly find themselves in a completely different world, where they meet weird characters that help teach them about themselves.  Of course, that story line could also fit the Chronicles of Narnia, or Phantom Tollbooth, the latter being one of my sisters' favorite books.   Maybe a mixture of the three stories would be fun.
